Wrinkle Treatment Q&A

What causes wrinkles?

Wrinkles and fine lines are common issues that directly result from aging. As your skin gets older, proteins that once gave it resilient firmness and elasticity diminish. That makes your skin more loose and fragile.

While the aging process is unavoidable, there are a few other factors and behaviors that can accelerate it and make your wrinkles more fast-forming or prominent. Some other reasons why you develop wrinkles include:

  • Smoking
  • Alcohol use
  • Dehydration
  • Repeated facial muscle movements
  • Ultraviolet (UV) light exposure
  • Malnutrition

Wrinkles themselves are purely a cosmetic issue, and it’s up to you whether or not to pursue wrinkle treatment. Several of these factors, like UV light, can have much more dire effects on your skin that your dermatologist can help you identify and address.

How does wrinkle treatment work?

If you don’t like the way your wrinkles affect your overall appearance, the team at Visage at the Vein Clinic can help you explore your options for treatment. Your best choices for treatment depend on a few different factors, including the type of wrinkle you want to treat and your personal preferences about the procedures.

Visage at the Vein Clinic currently offers these wrinkle treatment options:

Skin tightening

Skin tightening procedures like Morpheus8 radiofrequency microneedling or other InMode radiofrequency procedures like Forma and Fractora help remodel your tissues and promote collagen and elastin production noninvasively.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment

PRP includes numerous growth factors and platelets from a sample of your blood, which both help with tissue healing and cell regeneration. Microneedling with PRP can help your skin become stronger and tighter to reduce wrinkles and fine lines.

Botox® and Xeomin® injections

Botulinum toxin injectables like Botox® and Xeomin® only target dynamic wrinkles, which appear on the skin over muscles that consistently flex. Crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines are common dynamic wrinkles you can target with either Botox or Xeomin.

PDO thread lift

A PDO thread lift is a minimally invasive facelift. It tightens facial skin to minimize jowls and other features. Once the threads are in place beneath your skin, collagen grows around them, and they dissolve over time.

How long do the results of wrinkle treatment last?

Wrinkle treatment results are never truly permanent because they don’t stop your skin from continuing to age, but their results can last for months or even years. In the case of Botox or Xeomin, the initial results last for 3-4 months. You can book follow-up injections to repeat the process if you’re pleased with the results.

Other forms of wrinkle treatment, like radiofrequency or PRP, have varied results. You likely need a series of treatments to see a significant reduction in wrinkles, but the results can last for many months, and you can follow-up with touch-up treatments as the collagen starts to break down again.

You might not mind the way wrinkles look on others, but seeing them appear on yourself can highlight your age and the passing of time. To explore long-lasting wrinkle treatments, call Visage at the Vein Clinic, or request a consultation online today.
